Gear Review: Kuhl Weekendr Tights

This fall, Kuhl reached out and asked if I wanted to try out a pair of their hiking pants and review them. It was perfect timing - I had been searching for a pair of hiking pants. I hike in leggings 95% of the time, but had been wanting something a little warmer for the cold weather and a little tougher for hiking through brush.

I’ve had a few pairs of hiking pants on and off throughout the years, but I’ve never found a pair that I’ve really fallen in love with - they’re either too baggy for my liking or, if they’re fitted, they don’t have any give and aren’t very comfortable. That’s why I was excited to try the Kuhl Weekendr Tight.

KÜHL’s WEEKENDR™ Women’s Tights combine multiple high-performance fabrics into one lightweight, form-fitting, hiking pant. Equipped with excellent abrasion resistance, these tights are tough enough for the trail. A durable water-resistant finish won’t let the weather slow you down.

These tights seemed to have the best of both worlds - fitted and stretchy like workout leggings but made from a tougher fabric that would block wind and hold up in the brush. The question is, are they as good as they seem?

Well, after a couple months of wear, my opinion is yes! I wore them on nearly all my fall hikes and I’m still wearing them throughout this winter on dry and cold days. They’re stretchy enough that they’re comfortable, but tough enough that they hold their shape - no constantly pulling them up. They’re also significantly warmer and more windproof than any of my workout leggings. I wouldn’t wear them on a hike where I’d be post holing through snow or if it was pouring rain, but they are water resistant.

Another awesome feature is stretchy panels on the sides and around the knees for great range of motion - great for scrambling around on rocks or doing outdoor yoga. They’ve got enough pockets too - two rear pockets and two zippered ones in the front.

I typically wear a medium in most outdoor gear, and I was right on the border of medium and large for these tights. I ordered medium and am happy with how they fit - definitely on the fitted size, but not too tight. I’m 5’11” with a 35” inseam, so I frequently struggle with finding outdoor clothes that are long enough for me. The inseam on the Weekendr Tight is only 29”, but since they’re fitted and supposed to hit at the ankle, I can get away with the shorter fit - another bonus of this style.

All in all, the Kuhl Weekendr Tight are a great cool weather pair of hiking pants, especially if you don’t like the fit or style of typical hiking pants. I’d highly recommend them!

Kuhl provided the Weekendr Tight, but all opinions are my own.
